RAXANN CHIN
BIOGRAPHY

❝ The art of Fashion and Costume Design is paramount to me because it plays such an essential role in storytelling. Our clothing is our history. Capturing what we wear at any given moment is the best time capsule we have. ❞

Raxann Chin is the award-winning Founder and Creative Director of the haute couture fashion brand, Femheka. The Jamaican-American designer is a beacon of artistry with an illustrious career as a fashion designer, costume designer and stylist spanning the realms of film, television, theater, opera, commercials, music videos, and elite sports associations.
The New York-based, self-taught visionary made her mark in 2012 when she unveiled her first collection, captivating connoisseurs of couture with her unparalleled mythological storytelling. Within two years, her transcendent designs and mastery in crafting opulent couture attracted a discerning celebrity clientele, propelling her into the international spotlight. She has since graced the international stage with designs at the most notable red carpets of the Academy Awards, The Grammy Awards, and Festival de Cannes to the revered Miss World pageant, where she was entrusted to design Jamaica's national costume for the 2015 competition in Sanya, China.
Before her meteoric rise in fashion, Chin received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies and Media Arts, on an academic scholarship, from Wayne State University in Detroit and later attended The University of Detroit Mercy Law School. Her sharp intellect and ambition led her to Wall Street, where she excelled for over a decade as a Stockbroker, ultimately ascending to Vice President of Marketing Strategy and Communications Manager at Merrill Lynch. It was in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crash that Chin chose to honor her calling as a creative, birthing Femheka — a name inspired by Egyptian mythology, meaning 'Magical Goddess.'
Chin’s sartorial success led to costume design across an array of artistic platforms beginning with her inaugural film project "Grit". Her cinematic journey continued with films such as "Blue Diamonds", "The Last Nazi", "Cady Did", "Lust Life Love", "American Trial: The Eric Garner Story", Disney’s "Keeping Up With The Claus", and, most recently, “Back to the Present”, filmed both in the United States & France.
Her additional credits include the Off-Broadway production of "The Glen", Mozart’s "Figaro" with The Bare Opera Company of New York, and “Plastic Flowers” with The International Brazilian Opera Company. Her artistic signature is also seen in global advertising campaigns for Smirnoff Ice, The Voice of Holland, The Empire State Building, Bowlero and Coca-Cola, as well as music videos for recording artists such as Damian Marley, Queen Ifrica, Hannah Gill, and Raina and The Beehive, among others.
Chin's achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, she is the recipient of the Karib Nation Caribbean Style & Culture Award of Excellence, Fashion Designer of the Year Award from the Young, Gifted, and Black Entreprenuerial Awards, and the Jamaica Diaspora Northeast USA Future Leader Award. In 2022, Chin and co-costume designer, Christopher Lawrence, were both nominated in the category of Best Costume Design at the Independent Series Awards for their work on the award-winning web series "Cady Did".
Chin's influence extends beyond fashion. She proudly serves as a board member of The International Brazilian Opera Company (IBOC) and the Practical Nurses Association of Jamaica (PNAJ) and is a founding member of the Montego Bay Creative Arts Network (MCAN). Her artistry and indomitable spirit continue to elevate the narrative of luxury and elegance on the global stage, cementing her legacy as a designer par excellence.
